Petra was inspired by an artist I've been following for some time. She is a painter based in Germany, and I'm in love with her color palettes. They aren't what I would immediately seek out when I'm pulling colors, but when she puts colors together in her abstract paintings, I'm always drawn to them.
This is my interpretation of one of her paintings. I pulled inspiration from her palette and vague shapes into a weaving. Shifting from painting to weaving can be challenging in the sense that we can't always "mix colors" in the same way, but it creates opportunities to convey color relationships in a different way.
The process provided a fresh perspective, looking at a piece of art with a specific purpose in mind. How could I translate and place color, convey abstract and flowing shapes within a more confined weaving apparatus. And, ultimately, how do I use that to create a new piece of art that can stand alone?
